Dentists loathe to extract teeth, as their job is to preserve all of your teeth for as long as possible, but certain conditions make it unavoidable. Wisdom tooth extractions become necessary more frequently than with any other tooth.
I have recently consulted with my dentist about a molar that has been causing me quite a bit of trouble. It was root canaled, and before that was filled twice because it acted up underneath the original filling and had my entire face all swollen up. The tooth had not hurt after the root canal, but recently half of the tooth broke while I was eating a club sandwich. The tooth does not hurt at all, and I told my dentist I would like it extracted.
“My top right molar has been acting up for over a year now. It was first sensitive to cold, but then I used special toothpaste and this stopped, but recently it has started to hurt when I bite. I haven’t been able to chew with the left half of my teeth for months now. It does not otherwise hurt, has no visible cavities, and is not particularly sensitive, either. The tooth has been filled before, and I have gotten an antibiotic root filling, and the tooth has received fluoride treatment as well. I had it x-rayed and there is no sign of an infection or cavitation anywhere.
“This Monday, I had my bottom right molar extracted. It came out in pieces, but my dentist removed all of the pieces, using that nifty spoon like thing. After using the things whose name I cannot for the life of me remember, he applied a styptic to the area. The styptic was completely absorbed in 2 days."
“Two years ago, I saw that I had a cyst above a tooth root. The doctor wanted to extract my tooth but I did not let her. They did an x-ray last year, and the cyst is still present. I have read somewhere that a tooth of this kind can cause a lot of problems, but mine did not hurt at all....then my jawbone also became inflamed, and I ran to the dentist, who extracted the tooth for me. I thought he would clean the affected area, or give me medication to take, but nothing of the sort happened. He said my body will take care of the problem. He said if it becomes inflamed ...”
