Tooth whitening

Tooth whitening procedures fall into the realm of elective dental treatments. They are not needed as a form of oral hygiene, do not help with curing diseases, and their contribution to your overall oral status is negligible. These sorts of sessions are usually preceded by a hygienic treatment and a deep cleaning or scaling of the teeth. There are many different types of tooth whitening treatments, but we use the ZOOM! whitening treatment. This treatment is a combination of a chemical and a light based treatment.

It usually takes 90 minutes for us to whiten teeth to their absolute whitest. The process can be divided into two 45 minute sessions as well, but it is usually easier to just sit through the whole dental treatment in one go. During the first half of the treatment a tray with hydrogen peroxide gel in it will be placed over your teeth and allowed to seep in. After that your teeth will be exposed to a special light that will make them even brighter and whiter than before.

ZOOM! makes several different kinds of whitening systems. The one explained above is referred to as a chairside whitening session. A similar session can also be done at home in the form of a take home kit, which includes the peroxide gel and trays.

Tooth whitening sessions are probably the least painful of all dental treatments, requiring no anaesthesia of any sort, and can thus be enjoyed by anyone at all, regardless of any other circumstances.

Tooth Whitening

What can we do if our natural tooth colour is greyer, yellowish, or is just darker than desired? We have some good news for you, as we can offer several solutions to your problem. We can make a beautiful set of veneers tailored to your teeth, just as many stars in Hollywood do. If you are looking for a gentler, more cost effective approach, take a look at what professional teeth whitening options we have to offer.
There are procedures that are safe to perform in your own home and that can effectively whiten your teeth to a certain degree. Certain fruits, like strawberries and lemons are highly acidic, and rubbing your teeth with them can whiten your teeth, and sodium bicarbonate has been used as a tooth whitening method since the 19th century.
However, you should be very careful when using these methods, as overuse can damage your tooth enamel, which can lead to more serious dental problems. Make sure you do not whiten too often, and that you leave 3 or 4 months in between sessions.

At home tooth whitening kits

We stock at home teeth whitening kits at our dental clinic which contain everything you could need for brightening your smile at home and get rid of your yellow teeth. The kits include tooth whitening gel, which does most of the work, and the trays which you place over your teeth. The at home tooth whitening gel is the same that we use in our clinic, but is somewhat lower concentration. The treatment should last between 10 and 14 days, with the gel being applied every day for a couple of hours. At the end of the treatment, your teeth should be 4-5 shades brighter, and the effect can last up to 1-2 years, depending on lifestyle and environmental factors.

Teeth whitening at our clinic

If you do not trust at home methods as much as treatment done by a professional dentist, or you simply wish for a quicker result, you can choose a chair side whitening treatment at our clinic. During this treatment the dentist puts whitening gel on your teeth, and the gel is activated and intensified by a LED light, which makes the teeth look up to 8-10 tones brighter than before. The result of the treatment can be seen right after it is finished. After the treatment you have to avoid some types of food - tomatoes, spinach, red wine, coffee, etc. - for a few days, but any other annoyances such as mild pain should go away within 24 hours. No matter which teeth whitening product you wish to choose, you can come to our clinic and have a consultation with our experienced dentists.
