The Istituto nazionale per la grafica (National Institute for Graphic Arts) part of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, is a unique example of its kind in the world of international museology since its collection includes copper plates (matrici), as well as drawings, prints and photographs.
This important Institution is currently working on Piranesi Project (Progetto Piranesi) and, in particular, on the Catalogo generale delle matrici by Giambattista Piranesi. By the end of 2020, the 300th anniversary of Piranesi’s birth, the last of the 5 volumes covering the entire 964 surviving plates, etched by the artist himself, will be published.
