Ad Parnassum opens their 2016 season with Boccherini's 'Stabat Mater'. Playing isL'Offerta Musicale Orchestra da Camera di Venezia under the refined and profound direction of Riccardo Parravicini. This is a wonderful chance to hear this unjustly forgotten work by (what 18th century patrons called) the 'Divine' Boccherini.

Boccherini, a virtuosic cellist, was the most important Italian instrumental composer of the latter part of the 18th century having success thoroughout Europe where his name was ranked alongside those of Mozart and Haydn. A great innovator of cello technique, his compositions reveal the cello in all its glory. His 'Stabat Mater' is one of Boccherini's most famous compositions; written in 1781, which employs a Galante and original Rococo style at its very best. The piece is for orchestra and solo soprano.
This concert is held in memory of Lucia Geyer, founding patron of Ad Parnassum. Proceeds will be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
