I have a problem that I cannot seem to find a solution for on the internet, and do not know if a dentist should see it or not. Every once in a while (about every other month), for a few days I get a strange metallic taste in my mouth. My tongue usually swells up and some filmy stuff shows up on it. I cannot get rid of it, it seems like the more I scrub away there is more coming up, too. This usually lasts a couple of days and my mouth is really sore, and then it goes away. I also get a tingling sensation in the gums and on a tooth that was previously root canaled when this happens. There is no bleeding and no pain, just a kind of deep itching feeling. What is this that I have? Is it serious? Does it need to be seen by a professional?

I know how sugar is bad for your teeth, but I just CAN’T stop! I have had cavities, root canals, and have recently had a molar extracted from my bottom left. BUt nonetheless, I still keep eating sugary sweets, I cannot help myself. What do I do? Is there anyway to substitute sugar for anything? I have tried aspartame and all, but they taste gross and do not deliver at all, I have sugar cravings like right after I eat them. Also, is there some way to minimize the damage? Thank you,

My name is Phillip and I am a musician. I play in a Blues Band, and have a regular club I play at every Wednesday, and I also tour for between 4 and 6 months. During these times, I drink a fair bit of booze. We are not a big band you see, and so we drink with the locals, whenever they offer as a sign of respect that they came out to see us. My teeth are quite horrid, but I am British, smoke regularly, drink coffee and eat sweets, besides the booze. I am trying to sort out my life currently, and am wondering how bad is alcohol for your teeth really? I am already trying to quit smoking and am eating far less sugar, and I am wondering how much of an improvement quitting alcohol can be to my mouth.
